The original “The Irregular at Magic High School” series is confirmed to conclude in the coming months. However, it has been confirmed that the story will continue in at least two more sequels.
‘The Irregular at Magic High School’ sequels release date
It was announced last month that the original “The Irregular at Magic High School” light novel by Tsutomu Sato would conclude the story of Tatsuya Shiba in volume 32 to be called the Sacrifice/Graduation Arc. While that will still mark the end of Tatsuya’s tale, it is not the final chapter of the series after the release of two sequels was confirmed recently. One of these follow-up novels might even lead to an all-new series for an entirely new batch of magic students.
As volume 32’s title suggests, Tatsuya and his friends will finish their time as students at the Magic High School, and it will be followed by a sequel tentatively titled “The Irregular at Magic High School.” Its plot will provide an update on Tatsuya and the other characters after they graduated, possibly how they choose to use everything they have learned in Magic High School. The same Twitter post confirmed that this epilogue-like sequel would be released in fall, so it should be available in Japan not long after volume 32 is out on Thursday, Sept. 10.
The second follow-up series is a little bit more interesting. It is given a temporary title, “The Irregular at Magic High School Maidens of Cygnus” that will revolve around the new students entering the Magic High School after Tatsuya’s batch has graduated. This means the introduction of new characters is very likely, but it is still unclear whether this is planned to be a full-fledged light novel series like the original that has been in publication since 2011. This follow-up series will be released in the winter of 2021.
‘The Irregular at Magic High School’ season 2: What to expect
The original series conclusion and newly confirmed sequels are not the only content fans can expect from the franchise. Its anime adaptation is finally going back on air after several years. “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 will premiere sometime in October.
While the 2017 movie with an original plot is a good watch, it is not really required to understand what will happen in “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 as it will pick up from the events of the anime’s first season that aired in 2014. However, it is expected to have fewer episodes as producers confirmed it will only cover the Visitor Arc based on the light novel’s volumes 9 to 11.
