“The Good Doctor” season 2 is slated to return in a couple of weeks. And aside from the literal life-and-death chaos showed in the fall finale, a love story is brewing and might be escalating in 2019.

Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) and Dr. Melendez’s (Nicholas Gonzalez) romantic affair at the beginning of “The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 10 earlier this month was the “calm” before the “storm” that was a viral outbreak in the hospital. While there has been some sexual tension between these doctors since season 2 started, they still decided that their mini sleepover must not happen again.

However, in the following interview with Chang, the actress confirmed that there will be more of this will they-won’t they love affair in the upcoming “The Good Doctor” season 2 episodes. “They definitely share strong feelings for one another,” Chang told TVLine.

The expression on Melendez’s face after learning that Lim was also quarantined (later infected) was very telling that there might be more to their relationship in the near future of “The Good Doctor” season 2. However, Chang refused to discuss the possibilities any further and explained, “I know she does [have feelings for Melendez]. That much I can say. Whether they choose to move forward with that is another topic that I can’t really speak too much in detail about.”

When “The Good Doctor” season 2 returns in January 2019, Chang also confirmed that the show will pick up literally just “seconds” from where the fall finale ended. For a brief recap, the fall finale and 2019 premiere are both titled “Quarantine” — a nod to the biggest problem at hand in San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital.

Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) and Lim attended on a couple of patients supposedly going to Malaysia but suddenly collapsed at the airport. Turns out, they were carrying an infectious, airborne virus that kills its host in a matter of hours. And this is where the chaos began in the “The Good Doctor” season 2 fall finale. There are also side (but major) issues including Dr. Glassman’s (Richard Schiff) cancer and Melendez’s problems with his bone marrow transplant operation.

Fans can only hope that Lim will be saved in time and the hospital gains control over the sudden viral outbreak in episode 11. “The Good Doctor” season 2 will return on Monday, Jan. 14, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
