The David Shore-led medical drama series has been making waves with the performances from its main cast, Freddie Highmore and Richard Schiff. The actors' dynamic onscreen has been an electrifying experience for viewers of the show's first season as Schiff's Aaron Glassman plays a great mentor to Highmore's Shaun Murphy.
ET recently came out with an exclusive sneak preview clip for “The Good Doctor” season 2 and its season premiere episode. The scene shows Glassman particularly sullen as he hurls balls of crumpled paper at a trash bin on the other side of the room. Glassman was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor in his brain during the show's last season and, in the scene, is awaiting the results of recent diagnostic exams.
Shaun joins his mentor and friend on the couch, tells him in a straightforward manner that Dr. Kalu (Chuku Modu) told him to sit beside the hospital's president as some sort of comforting presence. The short sequence opens up Shaun's character a bit more as it shows how hard it is for him to deal with his friend's condition even in his own way.
Fans will be interested to know that the season premiere episode, titled “Hello,” was written by none other than Freddie Highmore himself. Highmore, in an interview with ET early in the year, mentioned that he has a desire to further individualize the character of Shaun Murphy by focusing on personality traits that aren't necessarily due to his autism. Hopefully, the full “The Good Doctor” season 2 premiere sets a good example for Highmore's vision for the character.
Fans of the show who are excited to see how Shaun will continue to process Glassman's cancer diagnosis as the series progresses can look forward to “The Good Doctor” season 2 airing its premiere episode on Sept. 24.
