CHICAGO and WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 18, 2017 -- The Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC), the official foundation of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, and TESARO, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSRO), an oncology-focused biopharmaceutical company, today announced the continuation of their partnership supporting the annual National Race to End Women’s Cancer. TESARO is the Presenting Break-Through Sponsor of the 8th annual National Race to End Women’s Cancer, the FWC’s pinnacle awareness and fundraising event, bringing families and friends from across the country together to support women with gynecologic cancers. The event features a 5K run and 1 mile walk on Sunday, Nov. 5, along Pennsylvania Avenue, NW in Washington, D.C.
“Our ongoing relationship with TESARO reflects our shared commitment to support women with gynecologic cancers,” said David G. Mutch, MD, Chairman of FWC’s Board of Directors. “We are grateful for TESARO’s continued support and dedication to making the Race a memorable event for the survivors, advocates, and loved ones.”
“TESARO strives to keep patients at the heart of everything we do and is committed to being a partner of choice with the gynecologic cancer community. We are honored to support this incredible event and the important work that the FWC does to raise awareness and provide support to those touched by cancer,” said Lonnie Moulder, CEO of TESARO. “Our team is proud to be a part of this unique weekend of education, advocacy, support and inspiration.”
Every five minutes a woman will receive a gynecologic cancer diagnosis in the United States. More than 107,470 women will be diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer and about 31,600 will die from these cancers in 2017. The FWC supports survivors and works to raise awareness and research funding to eradicate gynecologic cancers.
Pre-race programing will begin at 7:30 a.m. at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, with the 5K run starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by the 1 mile walk at 9:45 a.m. FWC anticipates approximately 2,000 participants at this year’s event.
The event is led by National Race Co-Chairs Camille Grammer, an endometrial cancer survivor and star on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” who will walk the route with her team, “Camille’s Crusaders;” and Wendy Ericsson, a uterine cancer survivor, who also serves as captain of her team “Wendy’s Warriors.” Individuals and teams can register at https://endwomenscancer.org.
