The CW may have already announced during the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) that “Raising Hope” actor Chris Klein will be joining the Arrowverse in “The Flash” season 5 as the Flash's newest enemy, Cicada. But the network's latest teasers may surprise fans who are excited to learn more about the newest villain terrorizing Central City.
TV Line recently posted an album of teaser photos from “The Flash” season 5's second episode, “Blocked.” The teaser photos include a first look at Cicada's costume. It seems that the Flash (Grant Gustin), XS (Jessica Parker Kennedy), and Vibe (Carlos Valdes) run into the new villain together.
In the photo featuring Cicada, the new villain for “The Flash” season 5 is shown wearing a hooded jacket with what appears to be a gas mask obscuring his face. One of the photos also features Vibe being threatened by Cicada's blade that is weirdly shaped like a lightning bolt. If the cast and crew of “The Flash” season 5 stay true to Cicada's powers and origins in the comics, Vibe is in for a bad day.
Fans who follow the comics may notice that the Cicada in “The Flash” season 5 looks to be significantly different from his portrayal in the comic. Comic Cicada was usually portrayed as an old, balding man with a long white beard and leads the Cicada cult. Cicada also gained the power to steal the lives of other beings after he was struck by lightning.
With there already being significant changes to Cicada's aesthetics in “The Flash” season 5 teaser photos, fans can potentially expect significant changes to Cicada's background and powers when the villain is finally introduced. Hopefully, the changes to Cicada's character will be for the best of “The Flash” season 5.
