‘The Flash’ season 3 may introduce a Flashpoint story arc following Barry’s alteration of the DC universe timeline through time travel. Grant Gustin, who plays lead character Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash, admitted that he knew nothing of the new season’s plot.
According to Inverse, season 2’s shocking finale heavily implied that the series’ storyline may tackle a Flashpoint story arc for the incoming third season. The last moments of season 2’s episode, entitled “The Race of His Life”, found Barry traveling back in time to stop Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh) from killing his mother after defeating Zoom.
Flashpoint, a DC comic book crossover story arc created by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert, told the story of a drastically altered DC Universe. In the original comic book, Barry wakes up to a different life where he discovers that his mother Nora is alive and well. He also realizes that he has no superpowers and heroes have become villains and vice-versa.
It may be possible that season 3 of ‘The Flash’ will explore Flashpoint’s story line and may introduce several new characters into the series including Captain Cold, Aquaman, Batman, and The Joker, according to E! News.
In the comic books, Thomas Wayne – Bruce’s father – is a violent version of Batman while Captain Cold is Central City’s greatest hero. Heroes such as Flash and Superman don’t exist while Wonder Woman and Aquaman are on a warpath conquering the British Isles and sinking Western Europe, respectively.
Lead actor Gustin Grant, who plays Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash, shared some of his thoughts on Twitter while remaining mum on details for the incoming season. According to Carter Matt, he said, “I know absolutely nothing about where we’re going in season 3 yet and how we will pick it up after THAT decision … I think we can all make some assumptions … Hopefully Barry can find some peace & regain some confidence. Cocky Flash is fun Flash. Thanks for a fun season u guys. I love being Barry.”
‘The Flash’ is a popular television series that airs on The CW. It follows Barry Allen, a crime scene investigator-turned-superhero with superhuman speed. It won Grant Gustin a Teen Choice Award for Choice TV - Breakout Star in 2015.
The CW confirmed season 3 last March although no official release date has been announced as of the present.
