‘The Defenders’ recently released a new poster hinting at Elektra’s major role. It remains unknown whether she will be fighting with or against the superheroes. Meanwhile, it was speculated that the series will also bring in The Chaste.
According to Digital Spy, a new poster created by Marvel Entertainment's Joe Quesada showed Elektra (Elodie Yung) featured alongside Sigourney Weaver's villainous Alexandra. The poster also showed the superhero team that consists of Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Iron Fist (Finn Jones), and Daredevil (Charlie Cox). Basing on the recent artwork, it is yet to be known whether Elektra will be on the side of justice or if she will ally with the antagonists in the upcoming miniseries developed for Netflix.
Elektra is an assassin who trained under Stick, the same man from the Chaste who also trained Matt Murdoch a.k.a. Daredevil. Young portrayed the character on ‘Daredevil,’ where she was eventually killed off in a final confrontation with Nobu Yoshioka. When the Hand retrieved her dead body from the grave to put her inside a stone chamber with the intent of resurrecting her as a weapon the Black Sky, a faint heartbeat could be heard from her corpse upon closure of the chamber door.
It seems that Elektra will fight against the Defenders in the upcoming series alongside Alexandra. Although Weaver’s character remains a mystery, showrunner Marco Ramirez described Alexandra as a “badass,” who is “sophisticated, intellectual and dangerous.”
The upcoming miniseries will consist of eight episodes and will bring together the four superheroes with their own dedicated series on the streaming service. The series will pit them against a common enemy and will also connect their individual series to the massive Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) set in and around New York City.
Netflix released a short clip of the four superheroes early in April, which teased the show’s release date. The video featured Jessica, Luke, Iron Fist, and Daredevil in an elevator together and was seen through the perspective of a security camera. Jessica proceeded to dismantle the camera and a timestamp of the footage stopped at “08:18:20:17.”
Filming for the series wrapped nearly a month ago while the filming of the second season of ‘Jessica Jones’ has commenced. According to Comicbook.com, a Spanish-language magazine revealed that The Chaste will be returning to the MCU.
It was also revealed that Chilean actor Marko Zaror (Machete Kills) will play Shaft. It was reported that Shaft will be the third member of The Chaste to appear. He is part of Stick’s group of assassins that are enemies of The Hand.
‘The Defenders’ is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on August 18, 2017.
