Netflix has released the official “The Crown” Season 6 Part 1 trailer. The historical drama has followed the late Queen Elizabeth II through various major periods of her life, with Claire Foy playing the monarch in her early years in Season 1 and Season 2, and Olivia Colman playing the monarch between 1964 and 1990 in Season 3 and Season 4. Imelda Staunton made her debut in the role in Season 5, and her portrayal will carry over into the show's final two-part season.
'The Crown' Season 6 Part 1 Trailer Now Out
“The Crown” Season 6 Part 1 trailer focuses on Princess Diana's final days and her battles to maintain her relationship with her children, per Screen Rant. She is also a tabloid phenomenon following her separation from from the royal family up to her death in a car accident in 1997. At that point, the focus shifts back to Queen Elizabeth II and her struggle to be the "mother of the nation" amid a particularly trying time for her family.
Princess Diana's life and sad death have been represented in a number of media in recent years. These include Diana the Musical, a recording of which was uploaded on Netflix, and Spencer, a biography that received lead actress Kristen Stewart an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of the princess. It remains to be seen how The Crown's Princess Diana story will stand out as a one-of-a-kind rendition.
As the teaser suggests, the key feature that distinguishes the season is most likely the fact that Diana's death is being seen through the eyes of the Queen. This is an essential component given that Queen Elizabeth II is the main character of The Crown. It does, however, stand out because the royal family is typically portrayed as adversarial in representations of the Princess Diana narrative. The Crown can add nuance and texture to the sad events better than a standard adaptation.
It's unclear how many episodes of "The Crown" Season 6 will air before Princess Diana's death. On the other hand, the Season 6 timeline will begin in 1997, just weeks before her death. Because the season will extend at least another eight years after that, it appears likely that the first episode or two will center on Diana's death and its long-term impact on the royal family.
'The Crown' Season 6 Spoilers
According to Deadline, three actors have been cast to represent the teenage and young adult versions of Prince William and Kate Middleton in the show's sixth season. Two actors will play William at various ages, while one actor will represent Princess Kate as a young adult.
All three actors will be making their television debuts in "The Crown." Rufus Kampa will play William at the age of 15 in episodes depicting the era following his mother, Princess Diana's, terrible death. Ed McVey will play the prince during his late adolescent and early adult years, including his wooing of Princess Kate, who will be played by Meg Bellamy.
