ABC has not only confirmed the release of “The Conners” season 2, but it is also recently reported that the network is ordering almost double the episode count from season 1. However, will the busy TV and stage actress Laurie Metcalf be able to join the second installment?
Some fans were worried that “The Conners” season 2 was not going to happen because the first season concluded in January, but it took ABC until March to announce its renewal. "We are proud to be continuing the story of the iconic Conner family. This team is fearless in their willingness to tackle contemporary issues with humor and heart, and I have no doubt they will continue to outdo themselves,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said at the time.

Earlier this week, more good news arrived as the network confirmed there would be more episodes in “The Conners” season 2 compared to the first season’s 11-episode run. Deadline reports the news came from Burke during a Disney press event on Tuesday. “We will end up with around a full season,” the TV exec announced.
In the TV show industry, a full season typically means having 22 episodes. The same publication reportedly “heard” that “The Conners” season 2 is planned to have up to 19 episodes.
However, the final episode count has yet to be finalized, and one of the biggest factors the production has to consider is Metcalf’s schedule. The veteran actress has been regular cast of the franchise playing the role of Jackie Harris since its original run in 1988.
Aside from portraying Jackie Harris, Metcalf is also a prominent theatre actress who recently played Hillary Clinton in the play “Hillary and Clinton” at the John Golden Theatre. Metcalf will also play another main character role in the upcoming theatre play “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” in 2020. And with “The Conners” season 2 slated to premiere in fall, it could mean that its production could extend up to next year as well.
