“The Blacklist” was renewed once again for another suspenseful run, with season 6. The series was confirmed to continue airing in May and fans were so thrilled.
According to Variety, NBC ordered 22 episodes for “The Blacklist” season 6 and filming has already begun. When the show premieres, it is expected to answer many questions related to Red and Liz since season 5 concluded with mysteries involving their characters.
It can be recalled that Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone) set up her own abduction with the help of Jennifer Reddington (Fiona Dourif) and Sutton Ross (Julian Sands). This was planned in an effort to fool Reddington (James Spader) and make him think that he got away and had kept the bag of bones a secret.
Reddington burned the bones but unknown to him, Jennifer extracted DNA from the bones and was tested. The results caught her by surprise as it revealed that they belonged to Raymond Reddington.
The outcome led to the discovery that Raymond Reddington has been dead for about 30 years so this makes the present Red an impostor. If this is the case, then who is this man whom they believed to be Reddington?
Liz, together with Jennifer, vowed to uncover the identity of the man. Consequently, they found out that Raymond is Liz’s father.
Now, this shocking twist of Red being an impostor turned out to have been planned from the beginning. In fact, executive producer Jon Bokenkamp has confirmed this through his interview with Entertainment Weekly.
“Yeah, this is something that we’ve talked about from the inception of the show,” Bokenkamp explained when asked him if he knows that Red is an impostor. “It is part of the underlying mythology that we’ve slowly been unraveling. I think there are a number of episodes that we can go back and sort of map and chart how we got here.”
This twist is very interesting and makes “The Blacklist” season 6 even more exciting to watch. When it debuts, here are some predictions as to what can happen next in the series.
First, Raymond Reddington’s real identity will be exposed. Then again, there is a chance that the bones belonged to someone else and there are just people who are out to bring down Red so they manipulated the DNA test results and made it appear to be Raymond’s.
Second, Liz could unleash her dark side and may go after her own father, Red. She may also get into cases where her dormant cynical self may be awakened and she could do something illegal. As EconoTimes previously reported, it could be a like father, like daughter scenario.
“The Blacklist” season 6 has no definite air date yet. However, it is expected to arrive in 2019.
