In an innovative move, Tesla's latest advertising campaign showcases the Cybertruck towing a Model Y, boldly celebrating its status as the world's best-selling vehicle in less than four years. The eye-catching display features the Model Y encased in glass, proclaiming, "The Best-Selling Car in the World is Made in America."
Tesla Marries Innovation and Achievement: Model Y's Global Triumph Showcased by Cybertruck
The strategy is one of the most logical and ideal for a company like Tesla, which has experimented with advertising recently. Combining the world's most polarizing and possibly most talked-about vehicle, the Cybertruck, with the flex of having the best-selling car in the world, the Model Y, is a perfect way to turn heads.
Teslarati reported that the Model Y became the world's best-selling vehicle in less than four years. Tesla officially announced the accomplishment during its most recent earnings call, confirming CEO Elon Musk's prediction from several years ago.
With an impressive 1.2 million Model Y units delivered to customers last year, Tesla is poised to continue its success story. As the automaker gears up to launch its next-generation platform, slated for a late next year debut, the Model Y remains a cornerstone in our strategy, ensuring a steady growth trajectory, even modest.
Tesla informed shareholders earlier this year that its growth rate would be "notably lower" due to the focus on the next-generation platform.
Model Y Surpasses Expectations to Become World's Best-Selling Vehicle, Tesla Confirms
Tesla stated on its Q4 2023 Earnings Call that the Model Y all-electric crossover was the world's best-selling vehicle of any type last year. It is a monumental achievement, given that the car only began delivering to customers four years ago.
CEO Elon Musk has stated on several occasions that he believes the Model Y will eventually become the best-selling car in the world.
For the first time during the Q1 2021 Earnings Call, he said, "When it comes to Model Y, we think Model Y will be the best-selling car or vehicle of any kind in the world and probably next year. So I'm not 100% certain next year, but I think it's quite likely. I'd say more likely than not, that in 2022, Model Y is the best-selling car or truck of any kind in the world."
According to a source, Musk's achievement timeline may have been off by a year, but the Model Y was the best-selling vehicle 2023. This outpaces the Toyota Corolla and RAV-4, which have long been on the list.
"In 2023, we delivered over 1.2 million Model Ys, making it the best-selling vehicle, of any kind, globally. For a long time, many doubted the viability of EVs. Today, the best-selling vehicle on the planet is an EV." Tesla said in its Earnings Shareholder Deck that the Model Y had officially earned the label of the best-selling vehicle in the world.
If the figures are correct based on Tesla's Shareholder Deck and comments made during the Earnings Call, the Model Y represented a significant portion of the company's vehicle mix.
Tesla reports its figures uniquely, combining Model 3 and Model Y data. It also includes sales figures for both the Model S and Model X.
In addition, Tesla said it delivered 1,739,707 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in 2023. If it delivered exactly 1,200,000 units, it would have accounted for roughly 69 percent of the Model 3 and Model Y mix.
The Model Y helped Tesla rapidly grow from 2020 to 2023. Vehicle deliveries increased by 38% in 2023 compared to 2022, and the Model Y was undoubtedly a significant contributor, thanks to its massive influence as a demand generator for Tesla.
