In May, the Tesla Cybertruck achieved a remarkable milestone: It became the top-selling electric pickup in the U.S. with 3,907 registrations. This surge in popularity outpaced its competitors, including the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T.
Tesla Cybertruck Surges to Top of EV Market, Outselling All Competitors in May 2024
The Tesla Cybertruck has achieved an unprecedented feat, scaling the heights of success in the electric vehicle market in less than a year.
According to Road and Track, pickups manufactured by electric vehicle manufacturers are currently the most popular electric vehicles in the United States. According to registration data, Cybertruck's status as a novelty may have ended, as it outsold all its competitors during May.
Since the renegade, Tesla has refrained from disclosing sales figures for individual models. However, a market data analysis conducted by S&P Global indicates that the Cybertruck is gaining significant popularity just over a half year after production commenced. The financial information firm discovered that 3,907 pickup instances were registered nationwide in May.
This results in the most recent Tesla being the most popular electric vehicle by a significant margin. The Ford F-150 Lightning came in second with 2,353 registrations during the month, while the Rivian R1T followed in third with 1,237 registrations. General Motors' two battery-powered pickups, the Chevrolet Silverado EV (668 registrations) and the Hummer EV (337 registrations), completed the list.
The Cybertruck may have emerged victorious in May; however, it still has a significant amount of ground to make up for the F-150 Lightning. Through the initial five months of the year, the Blue Oval's pickup has been the most popular battery-powered vehicle, with 13,443 registrations. During the same period, 7,879 Cybertrucks were registered. The number of R1Ts registered this year is 3,881, less than the number of Cybertrucks sold in May.
Tesla Boosts Cybertruck Production to 1,300 Units Weekly, Aiming to Overtake Ford's F-150 Lightning
According to Robb Report, Despite Ford's current lead, the future of Cybertruck is promising. Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently revealed that the company is producing 1,300 pickup units each week. If this production rate is maintained, it could overtake the F-150 Lightning by the end of the year.
The Cybertruck's triumph couldn't have come at a more crucial time for Tesla. The company's share of the U.S. EV market had dipped below 50 percent for the first time earlier this month. The Cybertruck's success is not just a win for Tesla but a significant factor in reclaiming its market share.
