‘Switched at Birth’ season 5’s episode 7, titled “Memory (The Heart),” is set to follow Bay and Daphne as they meet a new woman, who may be their sister from their late father Angelo. Meanwhile, creator Lizzy Weiss teases that there will be some closure in store for the characters before the season ends.
The synopsis for “Memory (The Heart)” posted on Cartermatt reads, “A mysterious young woman has Bay and Daphne flooded with memories of their deceased father Angelo (guest star Gilles Marini, “Devious Maids”), and they must decide if they should let her into their lives. Toby is caught between his mother’s wishes to baptize his son Carlton and his wife’s feelings about faith. Melody (guest star Marlee Matlin, “The West Wing”) asks her sons to make amends so the family can be together for her birthday, but it might be too late.”
Bay and Daphne are set to meet a woman, who may or may not be their sister. They are then reminded of their departed dad, Angelo. The promo opens to Angelo telling Daphne, “After I died, you went through some rough times.” Daphne replies tearfully, “I just wish you were here.”
It seems that Angelo and Daphne are seeing each other again but through a dream sequence. Angelo Sorrento was the father of Daphne, Bay, and Abby. He died in a car accident back in season 3.
During an interview with TV Guide, creator Lizzy Weiss expressed her excitement over Marini’s return to the series even after his character passed away. Weiss said, “It's just a huge milestone. Giles Marini (Angelo), is back in a very special way since he passed away. We are really proud of that episode. It's very emotional.”
She continued, “It's more of a "regular" Switched at Birth episode with our girls at the forefront and the parents… We found out at the 100th episode that we were going to wind things down. We make a turn and start moving towards getting some closure for everybody. The series finale is a big deal.”
It was speculated that Angelo became involved with another woman before he passed away and the new character to be introduced may be Bay and Daphne’s half-sister. In the promo, Bay and Daphne confront the young woman about the truth to which she only looks at them in contempt.
‘Switched at Birth’ season 5’s episode 7, titled “Memory (The Heart),” is scheduled to air on Freeform on March 21, 2017. It was directed by Lea Thompson and written by Linda Gase. It will be followed by episode 8, titled "Left in Charge," scheduled to be released on March 28 and directed by Dawn Wilkinson.
