‘Switched at Birth’ season 5’s episode 3, titled “Surprise,” is set to feature Toby and Lily as they plan to get married. However, these wedding plans will be threatened by a fight that ensues before the actual ceremony. Meanwhile, Bay is set to run into her ex-boyfriend Tank.
The synopsis for episode 3 posted on TV Buzer reads, “Returning from London for a visit, Toby (Lucas Grabeel) and Lily (Rachel Shenton) reveal their plans to get married in the Kennish backyard. But a fight before the wedding may tear them apart before they can say "I do."
Regina (Constance Marie) must decide whether to reveal her relationship with Luca to the family. When she least expects it, Bay (Vanessa Marano) runs into Tank (guest star Max Adler) again.”
The upcoming episode is set to follow a number of major plot lines – specifically those of Toby and Lily’s wedding plans as well as Bay’s chance encounter with her ex-boyfriend Tank, who she shares a difficult past with.
In the promo, Toby tells Lily as they are getting ready to make their union official, “I can’t wait to go through the rest of my life with you.” The two are dressed in full wedding attire; Toby in a tuxedo set and Lily in a light purple-pink gown. However, Lily remains skeptical and threatens to walk out of the ceremony.
Meanwhile, things couldn’t get any more complicated for Bay. The main protagonist seems to be caught in a love triangle between Travis (Ryan Lane), and Emmett (Sean Berdy).
Bay may have given Travis a chance at a relationship but Emmett also confessed that he wanted Bay back. It seems that her meeting with ex-boyfriend Tank will take surprising turns as well.
Creator Lizzy Weiss hinted at more drama for Bay’s love life during an interview with TV Guide. Weiss said, "Travis definitely is a little insecure about the ghost of Emmett and wondering if this epic Bay-Emmett romance is always going to be carried in her heart and if she's privately comparing him to [it]… It's going to cause some problems between them."
‘Switched at Birth’ season 5’s episode 3, titled “Surprise,” is scheduled to air on February 14, 2017 on Freeform. It was directed by Stephen Tolkin and written by Terrence Coli and Colin Waite. It will be followed by episode 4, titled "Relation of Lines and Colors," scheduled for February 21.
