Swedish producer price index remains unchanged sequentially, rises year-on-year

The Swedish producer price index stayed the same in August on a sequential basis. During the same period import prices dropped 0.4 percent while the export market prices rose 0.1 percent. According to Statistics Sweden, the Producer Price Index rose 9.3 percent on a year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, the import market prices rose 12.3 percent, while the prices on export market rose 12 percent year-on-year. In the past year, higher crude oil prices have impacted the import price index on the upside. The annual change in crude oil prices in August was 51.1 percent.  On a year-on-year basis, domestic supply prices rose 9.6 percent.

Sequentially, continued rises in electricity prices added to the rise on the export market. Meanwhile, the upturn was a bit offset by lower prices for waste collection, treatment and disposal services and basic precious and other non-ferrous metals.

Lower crude oil prices and lower prices for computers and peripheral equipment added to the fall in the import price index in August. The decline was slightly countered by increased prices for chemicals and chemical products.
