The much-awaited announcement of the final “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” fighter has finally taken place. And many fans’ wishes came true as game director Masahiro Sakurai confirmed the game’s last fighter is going to be Sora from “Kingdom Hearts.”
Fans had a number of guesses on which character would complete the “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” roster. Now, many agree that Sora’s addition would be the fitting closing for the popular crossover fighting game.
Similar to other previous collaborations, bringing Sora to “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” means more than just adding his character model to the lineup. The game will also feature popular moves Sora had in his original franchise “Kingdom Hearts.” Sora will have his Keyblade in the game and perform several combo attacks with it.
As demonstrated by Sakurai in a live stream on Tuesday, some of Sora’s moves will look similar to his actions in “Kingdom Hearts.” They involve airborne movements, which Sakurai said is only fitting because the protagonist’s name means “sky” in Japanese.
What sets Sora apart from other “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” fighters is that he can use magic in the game, including Firaga (fire), Thundaga (thunder), and Blizzaga (blizzard) spells. As for his Final Smash, Sora will be using “Sealing the Keyhole.” Using his Keyblade, Sora will send his opponents flying and throw them into another dimension before sealing them, preventing them from joining the battle any further.

Part of the “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” Challenger Pack #11 is a new stage, which also comes from the “Kingdom Hearts” universe. Hollow Bastion will be added as the new and final battlefield for the crossover fighting game. Fans of Sora’s game are likely familiar with Hollow Bastion already. It has been featured on the first “Kingdom Hearts,” “Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories,” and “Kingdom Hearts 2.”
“Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” will feature other fan-favorite characters from the Square Enix game through a new Spirit Board and the Hollow Bastion. “The dynamic stage contains one platform in its center, and, as the battle nears its close, players will travel to a special area inspired by Dive to the Heart with visuals featuring some familiar faces from the KINGDOM HEARTS series,” Nintendo said in a blog post. The final “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” DLC will be released on Oct. 18.
