‘Suicide Squad’ added another member of ‘The Justice League’ in a surprise casting ahead of the film’s scheduled release. Meanwhile, Jai Courtney reportedly got high and burned himself to mentally prepare himself for the role of Boomerang.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Ayer’s upcoming antihero film is set to feature another ‘Justice League’ member into its growing cast of characters. Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash was revealed to have been added just a week before the film’s for a last-minute shoot ahead of the scheduled release. His name was included in the official cast list from the press kit.
Miller reportedly finished filming a scene, which will be inserted into the film. It is unclear whether shooting for the additional footage began last April or only recently. Insiders revealed that Miller’s scene will not be part of the credits but will be included in the movie itself.
The character is one of the key players in DC’s extended universe of films. It was initially reported that he will be introduced into the DCEU in Zack Snyder’s 2017 film ‘The Justice League’ also starring Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman.
Miller’s version of the DC superhero is described to be a loner who is amazed by other superheroes. In the original comic books, The Flash is a crime scene investigator by day who becomes a costumed crime-fighter at night. He is best known for his ability to move at superhuman speed.
According to i09.com, ‘Suicide Squad’ is set to follow the events of Snyder’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’. The 2016 release had a strong premiere but numbers dropped significantly over the film’s second weekend at the box office. It was deemed a financial disappointment despite earning $868.16 worldwide and was received generally negative reviews from critics.
Meanwhile, Jai Courtney revealed that he went through extreme lengths to mentally prepare himself for the role of the violent criminal Captain Boomerang.
According to Vanity Fair, he admitted that he experimented and got high on hallucinogenic mushrooms while on a Skype call with director David Ayer, causing him to put out cigarettes on his own arm. He said, “That night I happened to eat some mushrooms… and I did self-inflict some burns.”
‘Suicide Squad’ is an upcoming crime-action and superhero film scheduled to premiere in theaters on August 5, 2016. It is written and directed by David Ayer and is produced by DC Entertainment, DC Comics, Atlas Entertainment, Warner Bros., Lin Pictures and Dune Entertainment.
