The existing clues are, so far, hinting at the future release of “Steven Universe” season 6. However, fans might want to refrain from figuring out what will happen next as the show is likely starting an all-new story arc that could make it seem like the series is resetting.
After enduring months-long of hiatus, fans were treated to a well-received season 5 finale earlier this year. The four-part ending accomplished the goal of healing the corrupted gems on Earth and, more importantly, allowing Steven to embrace his genuine identity. Many reviewed this installment as a sufficient series finale, but it is safe to bet that “Steven Universe” season 6 will happen.
Cartoon Network is obviously not done with Rebecca Sugar’s series just yet. However, it might take a long while before the release date of “Steven Universe” season 6 is announced. For now, the studio and the producers are likely focused on the upcoming movie with a yet to be announced storyline.
Meanwhile, the clues that “Steven Universe” season 6 is happening comes from Sugar and co-executive producer Ian Jones-Quartey. The duo discussed what will happen after the “Change Your Mind” episode on a podcast show and, without specifically mentioning the sixth season, they seemed to imply that the series will be renewed in the future.
In the said program, Sugar reiterated that season 5 accomplished to close the chapter of Steven’s quest to determine how to live his life. “Everything will be different,” Sugar hinted possibly looking forward to what will happen in “Steven Universe” season 6. “This version of it is done, there's going to be more, but it's going to be different and it's going to be something new,” Jones-Quartey added. “Steven has really figured something out about himself. So this part of the story, you know, that's it.”
Meanwhile, Den of Geek also took note of possible clue from voice actor Deedee Magno Hall that production of “Steven Universe” season 6 has started as early as February 2017. In this case, a release date could be squeezed in before 2019 ends.
