The Stellar blockchain has officially integrated Chainlink Data Feeds and Data Streams on its mainnet, marking a major step toward expanding decentralized finance (DeFi) services across its $3.54 billion tokenized real-world asset (RWA) ecosystem.
Under the Chainlink Scale program, the Stellar Development Foundation will cover the operating costs of the oracle infrastructure, allowing developers to access reliable market data without additional financial burdens.
According to RWA.xyz, Stellar ranks fourth among blockchain networks by tokenized RWA value, behind Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Solana. However, much of Stellar's tokenized capital has remained underutilized because its smart contracts lacked access to essential real-time pricing information.
Stellar's RWA ecosystem includes major financial institutions and regulated investment products. European fintech platform Spiko provides tokenized financial instruments linked to Amundi, including euro-denominated treasury products and assets involving multiple currencies.
Meanwhile, U.S.-focused offerings include Ondo Finance's tokenized government bond products and Franklin Templeton's blockchain-based money market fund.
The network also supports liquidity through Circle's USDC stablecoin and Figure's SEC-registered YLDS stablecoin.
Previously, Stellar's Soroban smart contracts faced limitations in accessing external financial data, restricting their ability to support sophisticated DeFi applications.
Without accurate market prices, developers struggled to create automated lending platforms that could accept tokenized bonds as collateral or calculate liquidation thresholds during market fluctuations.
The Chainlink integration addresses these challenges by delivering low-latency market data directly to Stellar smart contracts.
This infrastructure could enable automated lending, real-time collateral monitoring, efficient liquidations, prediction markets, and perpetual futures linked to tokenized financial assets.
The development comes amid growing activity across Stellar's blockchain ecosystem. RWA transfer volumes reportedly increased approximately 25% over the past month, while stablecoin market capitalization climbed 10%.
By subsidizing Chainlink's oracle services, the Stellar Development Foundation aims to attract more developers, strengthen institutional adoption, and accelerate the expansion of tokenized asset markets.
The integration could help transform Stellar's existing RWA holdings from relatively passive blockchain assets into productive capital supporting lending, trading, and other decentralized financial services.
As competition intensifies among blockchain networks, Stellar's Chainlink partnership positions the platform to pursue a larger share of the rapidly expanding institutional DeFi and real-world asset tokenization markets.
