It has been a while since Bethesda announced the delay of “Starfield” and “Redfall,” which were both supposed to launch this year. New release dates have not been confirmed yet, but a Microsoft gaming executive confirmed Bethesda’s space RPG would be released after Arkane’s vampire-themed shooter.
Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty appeared in an episode of the “Friends Per Second” podcast (via PCGamesN) recently, where confirmed the games’ order of release. Without giving specific details, Booty said “Redfall” will be available ahead of “Starfield.” But earlier announcements and recent reports might narrow down the possible launch window for both games.
In early October, well-known gaming industry leaker Okami Games reported that Arkane’s upcoming shooter is planned to be released by the end of March 2023. Fans may recall that when Bethesda announced the delay of both games last May, the company said “Redfall” and “Starfield” are now going to launch sometime in the first half of 2023.
The leaked information from Okami Games and Bethesda's statement suggests that “Starfield” is likely going to be released within the second quarter of 2023. Bethesda could then aim for a summer release date for its first all-new IP in decades.
While Booty did not say exactly when “Starfield” will be released, he provided more insight into what fans can expect from the game. Some have been referring to the game simply as a space-themed version of “Skyrim,” especially given its RPG elements. However, the Xbox Game Studios chief said, “Having had the chance over the last year and a half or so to spend more time with Todd Howard and see how he works and see what he brings to game design, I’m confident that he’s not gonna sit still on what was built before.”
Bethesda has so far revealed details about the world and factions to be explored in “Starfield.” The developer has said the game is set in The Settled Systems situated 50 light years outward of the Solar System. Players will assume the role of a member of the Constellation faction composed of space explorers.
