‘Star Wars: Han Solo’ is rumored to feature Donald Glover of ‘Community’ fame as a young Lando Calrissian. The actor and musician addressed the casting rumors in a recent interview saying that he was always a fan of the franchise. Meanwhile, it was also speculated that Han’s wife Sana may possibly make an appearance in the new film.
During an interview with Time, Glover addressed rumors of his alleged casting as the younger version of Han Solo’s associate Lando Calrissian. He said, “Yep. There are rumours... I mean, I grew up on [Star Wars]. My dad was a big fan. I had all the toys when I was little. I had a Darth Vader with the lightsaber he has. It was cool. It’s a dynasty. It’s like the bible. I love that franchise.”
Lando appeared in the original ‘Star Wars’ films and was portrayed by Billy Dee Williams. Williams was first introduced as Lando in Irvin Kershner’s 1980 film ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and reprised his role for Richard Marquand’s sequel ‘Return of the Jedi’ released in 1983.
Glover neither denied nor confirmed his alleged involvement in the film. He is currently promoting his new comedy-drama television series ‘Atlanta’, where he serves as actor and executive producer.
The 32-year old talent also worked on other television projects including NBC’s ’30 Rock’, NBC’s ‘Community’, and Disney Channel’s ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’. He appeared in full-feature films such as 2013’s ‘The To Do List’, 2015’s ‘The Lazarus Effect’, 2015’s ‘Magic Mike XXL’, and 2015’s ‘The Martian’. He is also set to star in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ alongside Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr.
As a musician, he performs under the stage name Childish Gambino. He was nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2015, namely for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance.
Alden Ehrenreich is set to star as the young Han Solo in the standalone film intended as part of the ‘Star Wars’ media franchise. So far, Ehrenreich is the only actor attached to the film directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
According to GQ, it was speculated that Han Solo’s wife Sana Solo may make an appearance in the upcoming film. The rumor emerged after Mashable film reporter Jeff Sneider announced that there were four young women of color in the running as lead female protagonist. No official confirmation was made as of the present.
In the original Marvel ‘Star Wars’ comic books, Han and Leia come across a woman who claimed that she was Han’s wife while they were running from the Imperials. Han denied the claim but it was revealed that Sana traveled the galaxy just to confront him.
‘Star Wars: Han Solo’ is a yet untitled science-fiction and action film scheduled to premiere in the U.S. on May 25, 2018.
