Although “Star Wars: Episode IX” is not coming out this December, this has not stopped people from talking about it. The movie rumors that have been going around have been particularly entertaining, starting with the one about Ewan McGregor potentially showing up as Obi-Wan Kenobi. There is also the fun fact of Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) getting special treatment with regards to his script.
With Obi-Wan being one of the most iconic characters in the franchise, it only makes sense that fans would want to see him in “Star Wars: Episode IX” in some capacity. He was already killed in this timeline, of course, but he can always appear as a force ghost if need be. As to why there are even rumors of him appearing, it’s mostly wishful thinking on the part of the fans.
Ewan McGregor himself says that he would be open to going back to the franchise if he was asked, but so far, this has yet to happen. So for the rumors of him appearing in “Star Wars: Episode IX,” this isn’t likely to happen. On that note, the one person who would know something about this is Mark Hamill who has seen the script and has done so in a rather special manner.
Spoilers and leaks with regards to the script and the story of “Star Wars: Episode IX” are things that the studio is guarding closely against. This is why the other actors in the movie are getting digital copies of their scripts and those copies cannot be duplicated. Mark Hamill, on the other hand, is actually getting his script in paper and it is delivered to him in a stringent manner.
It would seem that the “Star Wars: Episode IX” script is actually flown to him accompanied by a representative and he isn’t allowed to keep the copy overnight. He even compares the arrangement to working for the CIA. It seems that the Dec. 20, 2019 premiere of the movie cannot come soon enough.
