‘Star Trek Beyond’ reveals three new television spots as well as the third and final full trailer featuring Rihanna’s new single “Sledgehammer”. The song, written by Sia, will be included in the film’s official soundtrack.
According to Comingsoon.net, Paramount Pictures released three new television spots for Justin Lin’s upcoming third installment in the rebooted ‘Star Trek’ cinematic franchise. The spots featured numerous fast-paced action scenes and quick cuts.
Each spot featured brand new footage that included returning cast members Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Commander Spock, Zoe Saldana as Lt. Nyota Uhura, Karl Urban as Lt. Comm. Dr. Leonard McCoy, Simon Pegg as Lt. Comm. Montgomery Scott, Anton Yelchin as Ensign Pavel Chekov, and John Cho as Lt. Hikaru Sulu. Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella join the new film as Krall and Jayla, respectively.
J.J. Abrams, who directed the last two films in the rebooted series, is producing. Abrams’ 2009 film ‘Star Trek’ became a box office success, earning $385.68 million worldwide against a $150 million budget. His sequel, the 2013 film ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’, became the highest-grossing installment in the history of the franchise after earning $467.38 million against a $190 million production budget.
Meanwhile, the third and final trailer for ‘Star Trek Beyond’ premiered Rihanna’s new single “Sledgehammer”. According to Music Times, the single was written by Sia. It is currently available on TIDAL and iTunes.
The 28-year old Barbadian singer and songwriter expressed her gratitude for the project by posting the single’s cover art on her Instagram account @badgalriri. She captioned the image, “As a Star Trek fan, I am honored to have the theme song for the new @StarTrekMovie! Hear#SLEDGEHAMMER now on @TIDAL and @itunes”.
Saldana and Quinto each thanked Rihanna for helping them cope with Yelchin’s passing through the track. The introduction to “Sledgehammer” arrived more than a week after Yelchin’s fatal car accident last June 19.
Saldana shared Rihanna’s video with a caption, "Thank you @badgalriri, for a beautiful song during one of the most difficult times for our StarTrek family. We know Anton would be proud." Quinto also shared the same clip captioned, "after such an unimaginably sad week for our star trek family - @badgalriri brings some light into the darkness."
‘Star Trek Beyond’ is an upcoming action-adventure and science-fiction film scheduled to be released on July 22, 2016. It is directed by Justin Lin and written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. It is produced by J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, Roberto Orci with Ron Ames serving as associate producer. Jeffrey Chernov, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Tommy Harper, and Lindsey Weber are executive producing.
