KT, a South Korean company, launches another innovative robot designed for hotels and restaurants. This time it is announcing the arrival of its new AI Quarantine robot to help fight virus infections.
KT said that the new disinfection robot is coming in April and will be available for sale by then. This machine further deepened the company’s venture into the service robot and rental business.
According to The Korea Herald, the launching of KT’s AI Quarantine robot was held on Wednesday, March 30. A media event has been scheduled to officially present the disinfection machine to the public.
The company said that it is planning to sell the AI Quarantine robots as well as rent them out, and from April until the end of this year, KT will be releasing 4,000 units of the machine. Initially, the main target for the sale were government buildings, hospitals, and welfare facilities.
The new disinfection robot will be available in two sizes, and these were designed to sterilize purify airborne bacteria and viruses through the use of air plasma. The machine is also fitted with an ultraviolet-C light that is known to be powerful for UV purification. The light emitted by the robot will be used for disinfecting the floors, purifying the air, and removing dust and toxic gases.
As posted on KT’s website, the KT AI quarantine robot is a robot equipped with air purification/plasma sterilization/UVC sterilization that functions at the same time. It provides a clean and safe environment with a disinfection method that is harmless to the human body.
In any case, KT’s robots were said to have been revealed first at the 2022 Mobile World Congress that took place in Barcelona, Spain. The artificial intelligence (AI) software in the machines will operate on the 4G network system or above.
“KT aims to build a bridge between robot solution providers and those in need of the new robot service, and at the same time we are in pursuit of becoming a robot platform that tailors robots to customers’ needs and as a result enhances robots’ value,” KT’s senior vice president and head of AI robot business, Lee Sang-ho, said during the press conference yesterday.
The AI Quarantine robots will be on sale in April, and each unit will retail for about ₩20 million or $16,560. For the rental option, the leasing fee for the large model units is about ₩790,000 per month, while it is ₩750,000 for the smaller robots.
