Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo are legally divorced since July. The two have moved on in terms of work as both of them are already busy with their respective work schedules.
Aside from filming his movies, Joong Ki is set to return to the small screen via the third part of “Arthdal Chronicles.” The drama did so well when it premiered but suffered a bit when the actor filed for divorce from Hye Kyo in June.
The divorce clause in drama contracts
In fact, with the decline of the viewership ratings in the last few episodes of the second part of
“Arthdal Chronicles,” it was reported that a divorce clause was added to the contracts of artists who are set to star in dramas. This was reportedly included in the contract to protect the drama from controversies when stars suddenly announce their split from their spouses while the show is still airing.
“Before news of Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki’s divorce, the contract for drama appearances between the production company and the actors’ agencies did not include any clauses related to divorce,” Koreaboo quoted a production insider as saying. “But after the announcement of their divorce, ‘divorce’ was added to the contracts as a personal reason.”
It was stated that when the actor starring in a drama causes controversies due to a divorce, he will pay a fine - 3 times the amount of their contract fee. This is to compensate the studio for possible loss of income.
Joong Ki’s “Arthdal Chronicles”
With the upcoming third and last part of “Arthdal Chronicles,” fans are hoping that the ratings will not be affected anymore since the divorce has been finalized and long past already. Many think that it will be able to gain back the original viewers as the drama is still highly-anticipated despite the Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo divorce issue.
Meanwhile, the finale of Song Joong Ki’s “Arthdal Chronicles” will continue from where it left off in the second season. It will still star Kim Ji Won (Tan Ya), Jang Dong Gun (Ta Gon), Kim Ok Bin (Tael Ha) and Lee Do Kyung (Asa Ron) while Eun Som’s original character will not be around anymore but replaced by Joong Ki’s twin character Sa Ya. As per Soompi, the part 3 of “Arthdal Chronicles” will air on Sept. 7 at 9 p.m. on tvN.
