“Shrek 5” is taking a long time to arrive and the longer that the fans have to wait, the more they get frustrated. The lack of new updates from Dreamworks of NBCUniversal is also another reason why fans are feeling disappointed since they are not sure if the movie is still on or not.
The gap from the last “Shrek” movie is really huge since the fourth sequel came out in 2010. This means that nine years have already passed by and the fans are still waiting. What’s more, there is no news about the filming and it seems that this is not happening soon either.
Is the movie canceled?
But then, there are some points to consider before everyone thinks that “Shrek 5” is already canceled. Firstly, fans should know that the script for the movie is already done. With this said, then the cast and crew are only waiting for the advise to proceed with the production.
“I finished that script which I really, really, really love,” Michael McCullers, the movie’s newly-assigned writer told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s really personal to me. It’s got a pretty big reinvention behind it that I guess I can’t really reveal, but since DreamWorks was sold to Universal in that time for over $3 billion, I imagine they’re particularly interested in it stepping up and actually figuring out the future of the franchise in that way on the corporate level”.
Likewise, the script is ready and Dreamworks and NBCUniversal need to take action so that filming could begin. Once they get the ball rolling, then it will not be long when “Shrek 5” is released to theaters.
Plot predictions and release date
It should be noted that the upcoming “Shrek 5” is not a sequel therefore it will not follow the story of the first four movies. The difference is that it will have a new story and theme.
Actually, the reason why NBCUniversal hired a new writer for “Shrek 5” is to give it a “new look.” the studio said that they want the movie to be reinvented and they hope that giving it a new writer will fulfill their plans. Meanwhile, there is a leaked report that stated the fifth “Shrek” movie is coming to theaters on Sept. 23, 2022.
