“Shrek 5” is one of the most anticipated animated movies today. In fact, even after years of waiting, people continue to follow Dreamworks to get an update about it.
Has the movie been canceled?
There is no news about “Shrek 5” since 2018, but the film was clearly confirmed in 2014. At that time, it was announced that the production would also commence but then, it appears that Dreamworks and NBCUniversal put it on hold. Despite this, there is nothing to worry about because part of the pre-production works was done already, which means the film is still in the cards.
Moreover, in 2015, the studio released news about “Shrek 5” and Steve Burke, Universal’s CEO, reiterated their intention to do one of Dreamworks’ classic blockbuster animation films. Also, the movie is one of the chosen few who will be staying and reproduced by NBCUniversal after it acquired Dreamworks.
When will filming begin?
There were rumors that “Shrek 5” was to be released last year but as everyone can see it was a false report. Filming has not even started yet but based on a leaked report, the movie will officially go into production this year. The thing that suggested the filming date was the alleged leaked release date that was said to be on Sept. 23, 2022.
This means that the studio has only two years to complete the shoot of “Shrek 5.” The allotted time is usually enough for a full-length animation to be filmed thus they can surely beat the deadline if they begin the production soon.
Plot predictions - What will happen in the movie
When NBCUniversal picked “Shrek 5” to be one of its projects, it stated that it does not want a sequel to the “Shrek” movies but rather, they want it to be a reboot to offer something new to the moviegoers. They shared that they will be reinventing the movie to produce something that most people today will be able to relate to.
Finally, the story for “Shrek 5” has been put together already. Den of Geek reported that Michael McCullers, the new writer, revealed that he had completed the script and it is ready for filming. This only means that they have approved a plotline that may possibly about modern living since the officials stated that they are offering something that young people of today will truly understand.
