‘Shameless’ season 8 is officially renewed on Showtime and will feature the return of series lead actors William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum. Rossum finally settled her salary dispute with the network and studio Warner Bros. Television and confirmed that she will be reprising her role as Fiona Gallagher.
According to Variety, Showtime officially renewed the American comedy-drama television series for an eighth season. It will comprise of 12 episodes and is set to feature the return of lead actors William H. Macy as the alcoholic troublemaker and Gallagher patriarch Frank and Emmy Rossum as Frank’s eldest child Fiona.
The announcement came after season 7’s finale, titled "Requiem for a Slut," aired last December 18. Production for season 8 is expected to begin sometime in 2017.
The series renewal also came after the wake of Rossum’s contract dispute over equal paychecks with Macy, who was reportedly paid more for his work on the show. This led to a disagreement with Showtime and Warner Bros. Television. The salary dispute reportedly held up the imminent renewal of the popular television series.
However, it was previously reported by The Hollywood Reporter that Rossum will be returning for more seasons after having settled the dispute. The 30-year old actress tweeted, "Playing Fiona Gallagher has been one of the great privileges of my life. I'm so happy to continue w my SHAMELESS family! Back to work in May!"
Sources revealed that Rossum had an offer of equal pay with Macy yet it remains unconfirmed whether she is set to receive more than her co-star. It was reported that Macy was always paid more than the rest of the cast. The 66-year old American actor, screenwriter, and theater director is the recipient of multiple awards including two Emmy Awards and a nomination for an Academy Award for his role on ‘Fargo.’
The series also stars Jeremy Allen White as Lip, Ethan Cutkosky as Carl, Shanola Hampton as Veronica, Steve Howey as Kevin, Isidora Goreshter as Svetlana, Emma Kenney as Debbie, and Cameron Monaghan as Ian.
‘Shameless’ season 8 is expected to air on Showtime in the fall of 2017. No official release date has been announced as of the present.
