‘Shadowhunters’ season 2’s episode 8, titled “Love is the Devil,” will follow Alec as he decided to host Max’s rune celebration. However, things won’t go according to plan. Meanwhile, Simon is set to confess his love for Clary.
The synopsis for “Love is the Devil” posted on TV Guide reads, “Alec (Matthew Daddario) and Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) host a celebration in honor of Max's first rune, but the event provokes everyone's fears as tensions amongst them continue to rise. Meanwhile, Simon (Alberto Rosende) makes a bold move; and Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) finds a new ally.”
It seems that Alec’s attempts at hosting a celebration to honor his brother Max’s first rune wouldn’t progress as he planned. When Alec decides that the event would be a great opportunity to present his lover Magnus to his family, tensions will continue and boil up to chaos as they are met with their biggest fears.
According to iTech Post, disagreements may erupt not only from Alec’s sexual orientation but also on the issue of a mortal and immortal coupling. Magnus was a warlock while Alec was a half-angel warrior. Despite the impending chaos, the promo shows Alec and Magnus sharing a kiss.
During an interview with Out, Daddario and Shum Jr. addressed their characters’ developing relationship on the fantasy-drama television series. They also talked about how their characters came into their own since season 1.
When asked about how their respective characters evolved, Shum Jr. replied, “For Magnus, we’ve only seen a little portion of his life on screen. Here’s a guy who’s lived for centuries, who has been through so much, but you only get to see like a speck of what he goes through. Really, he thought he wasn’t going to have any new experiences. But when Alec starts to come into his life, he has hope for love again.”
Daddario also talked about Alec saying, “In the first season, Alec was this really closed-off young man. He was too tough for his own good; he tried to hide from who he is. He focused on helping others to help himself not think about himself. Now, he’s being forced to acknowledge he can’t continue being this way, and he’s becoming a more open, emotionally available person.”
When asked about Alec and Magnus’ fate as a couple, Shum Jr. hinted, “It can go good or bad. Just like anybody you meet, from the date you learn things that aren’t ideal for a partner. You want take a little time to digest; that’s what they need.”
The promo also hints at stress and apprehension among the Shadowhunters at the event. Some even looked like they were under a spell as they proceeded to have hallucinations.
Meanwhile, the promo also opens to Simon declaring his love for Clary (Katherine McNamara) on what looked to be a rooftop. He admits, “We’ve been friends for a long time and the last thing I’d ever want to do is screw that up… feelings evolve.” The previous episode, titled "How Are Thou Fallen," featured a scene where Simon received relationship advice from Maia (Alisha Wainwright).
‘Shadowhunters’ season 2’s episode 8, titled “Love is the Devil," is scheduled to air on Freeform on February 20, 2017. It will be followed by episode 9, titled "Bound by Blood,” scheduled to be released on February 27.
