‘Shadowhunters’ Season 2, Episode 10 Spoilers: “By The Light of Dawn” – Valentine Commences Plan to Use Soul Sword for Destruction; Downworlders to Sacrifice Clary?

‘Shadowhunters’ season 2’s episode 10, titled “By The Light of Dawn,” will feature Valentine as he commences with his plan to use the Soul Sword for the destruction of Downworlders. Meanwhile, the Downworlders hunt down Clary.

The synopsis for “By The Light of Dawn” posted on TV Guide reads, “The New York Institute is under attack, as Valentine's (Alan Van Sprang) plan for the Soul Sword gets dangerously close to coming to fruition. The Shadowhunters must act fast to save their loved ones; and some of the Downworlders have their own plan to stop Valentine, and their target is Clary (Katherine McNamara).”

The promo opens to Clary receiving an ominous message from Valentine. In the video, Valentine warns, “If you don’t show up within the hour, your vampire boyfriend will die a death I wouldn’t wish upon anyone.” Simon (Alberto Rosende) is seen strapped to a chair with tape over his mouth.

According to Christian Post, Valentine needs Clary’s full cooperation in order to activate the Soul Sword as part of his deadly plan to eliminate all Downworlders. The sword’s power can only be harnessed by an angel and Clary is of pure angel blood. Valentine is clearly growing restless and more frustrated that he has resorted to blackmail, with Simon’s life hanging in the balance.

The final scene from the promo showed Valentine forcing his daughter towards the sword. She continues to scream and resist as they edge nearer towards the powerful weapon. It will be interesting to see if Clary can manage to fight him off for the sake of all of Downworld.

The Soul Sword, otherwise known as the Mortal Sword and Angel Blade, was one of the Mortal Instruments bestowed upon Jonathan Shadowhunter by the Angel Raziel. In the original novels, the Soul Sword was initially intended as a tool to compel Nephilim to tell the truth during trials. However, Valentine discovered an ancient spell that could reverse its angelic alliance in favor of a demonic one that allows its bearer to have control of dark forces and demons.

Meanwhile, some Downworlders will continue to make it their mission to eliminate Clary as the New York Institute comes under an attack. They will be forced to make difficult decisions in order to save their friends and family from impending deaths.
