At Mobile World Congress (MWC) Americas, Semtech, a founding member and participating company on the board of directors for the LoRa Alliance™, is displaying smart cities applications that implement its LoRa Technology, including smart parking sensors and a smart safety lock in the LoRa Alliance Pavilion, booth number N260.
According to the Smart Cities Council, the global market for smart cities is projected to reach $1.2 trillion by 2020, driven by the growing world population and the need for sustainable methods to accommodate over seven billion people on the planet. With an increased demand for smart cities technology solutions, thousands of LoRa-based sensors are expected to be embedded throughout a city to collect business intelligence to enrich citizens’ lives. By leveraging Semtech’s LoRa-based devices, smart cities are able to improve city-wide efficiencies in an endless number of IoT applications from expanding the payer base of a citywide parking system to detect garbage levels in containers to optimize the waste collection routes for efficiency and cost effectiveness.
“At MWC Americas, Semtech is demonstrating low-power LoRa-enabled sensors that can easily connect to a LoRaWAN™ network and wirelessly transmit data to a mobile app to improve the way we interact in society,” said Vivek Mohan, Director of Wireless Products for Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group. “With over 65 countries already deploying networks based on the LoRaWAN open specification, Semtech’s LoRa Technology is the platform of choice for building IoT networks worldwide making our world a Smarter Planet with real-world use case applications.”
