Samsung announced that its popular Galaxy AI features, showcased in the S24 lineup, will be free until the end of 2025, after which users must pay for access. The change highlights a shift towards premium AI service models.
Samsung Introduces S24 AI Features, Free Until 2025; Subscription Model Starts in 2026
As Wccftech reported, Samsung's Advanced Intelligence demonstrated the enhanced capabilities that would be included in the S24 lineup at the Unpacked event in January. Apple subsequently drew inspiration from this and incorporated its unique spin on the AI enhancements by referring to them as Apple Intelligence.
The Galaxy AI integration with the S24 was the most popular feature of the S series. However, the technology behemoth announced that these upgrades would not be available for an extended period, temporarily suspending users' enthusiasm. The company recently reminded us that the services are subject to a quota, even though users needed to remember the mere mention of limited access to the tools.
Samsung announced in a press release that Galaxy AI is expanding its capabilities to a broader Galaxy ecosystem by leveraging the global inauguration of seven Galaxy Experience Spaces. The press release's footnotes indicated that the technology colossus is adamant about not providing such advancements for free and will begin charging for its AI tool in 2026. Samsung reiterated its intentions for the features in the footnotes, thereby serving as a reminder to users.
“Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices.”
Samsung Considers Premium Galaxy AI Plus, Following Trends of Major AI Providers
Google Gemini, Open AI's ChatGPT, and Microsoft's Pilot are among the major companies that provide Generative AI services available to consumers at no cost. Nevertheless, these AI initiative leaders are now separating the facility for free users from the paid users by providing a premium version with additional features, such as ChatGPT Plus, an upgraded version available to users with subscriptions.
Samsung has the potential to continue in the same direction and establish two levels of features: one that is standard and free for users and the other that contains a more extensive set of updates that are restricted to premium users. This approach could allow users to enjoy the fundamental advancements provided by Advanced Intelligence for free and then opt for a more advanced experience. The company is considering this strategy and might introduce the paid version as Galaxy AI Plus, following in the footsteps of its competitors. However, the details of this plan are currently unknown, and the free version is only available until the end of 2025.
South Korean technology companies are making significant strides in expanding the Galaxy Experience to users worldwide. This expansion includes seven additional locations, such as Paris, Dubai, and Tokyo, as part of the experience zones. This global reach is a testament to Samsung's commitment to providing a top-notch user experience worldwide.
