Samsung Galaxy A55 Leaks Reveal Upgrades, Aiming for March 2024 Release

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy A55 teases significant upgrades, promising a premium experience.

The Galaxy A54 from the previous year maintains its position as one of Samsung's top-selling products, providing users around the globe with exceptional value. Nevertheless, with each passing day, the Galaxy A55, its successor, approaches market release.

A recent disclosure by Winfuture has provided us with a more comprehensive understanding of the potential features and distinguishing features of the Galaxy A55 in comparison to its predecessor. Examine the specifics to determine whether the Galaxy A55 is a significant improvement.

Display and Design

According to Android Authority, in the past, render leaks had indicated that the Galaxy A55 might adopt a design aesthetic characterized by a flattened profile, mirroring the recent transformation observed in the flagship Galaxy S24 series. This supposition is supported by the leak released today, unveiling a somewhat unexpected aspect of the construction. Although the rear of the A55 retains its signature vertically aligned triple-camera configuration, it may receive a substantial material enhancement.

On the Galaxy A55, the plastic chassis of the phone that was initially introduced on the Galaxy A54 could be upgraded to aluminum. Additionally, the weight of the phone would be justified in this manner, as it escalates from 202 grams on the Galaxy A54 to 213 grams on the Galaxy A55.

The metal chassis will finalize the Galaxy A-series' transition to premium build quality in conjunction with the glass back. In addition, the phone's dimensions are marginally larger; the Galaxy A55 is 161.1 x 77.4 x 8.2 mm, while the Galaxy A54 is 158.2 x 76.7 x 8.2 mm.

Display-wise, the A55 is anticipated to continue the series tradition with a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED panel that is marginally larger and features a seamless 120Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, according to the leak, the Galaxy A55 is expected to retain its predecessors' IP67 rating, in-display biometric scanner, and stereo speakers.

Performance and Software

The A55 will be powered by a Samsung Exynos 1480 processor, consisting of four power-efficient cores rated at 2.0 GHz and four high-performance cores clocked at 2.75 GHz. This is a significant advance over the Exynos 1380 in the Galaxy A54, which clocked in at a maximum of 2.4 GHz. However, benchmarks and real-world testing will be required to determine how much this impacts multitasking and performance.

It is anticipated that the entry-level model of the Galaxy A55 will feature 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM, whereas the premium model could include 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. The device is powered by a 5000mAh battery, similar to the A54, which should provide excellent endurance. According to the leak, the A55 will maintain its predecessor's 25W rapid charging capabilities.

Regarding software, it is anticipated that the Galaxy A55 will utilize the most recent version of Android 14, with Samsung's One UI 6.1 on top. This year, Samsung's S-series flagship device made ripples by introducing many AI-integrated features; however, it is still being determined which AI functionalities could make their way into this midrange.

Cameras

According to the leaks, the imaging capabilities of the A55's camera system are effectively the same as those of its predecessor. The primary sensor continues to be a 50-megapixel device that features optical image stabilization and an aperture of f/1.8. A 5-megapixel macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture and a 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor with an f/2.2 aperture are also included.

Additionally, the front-facing camera appears identical to the A54, retaining its 32-megapixel sensor. Although the disclosed specifications do not indicate any substantial enhancements to the camera system, Samsung may have secretly improved the software processing or sensor technology.

Wireless charging is a long-awaited feature absent from the Galaxy A series. Although the transition from a metal back to a glass back on the A54 appeared to indicate its possible inclusion, the disclosure concerning the A55 makes no mention of this, so we'll have to wait and see.

Pricing and Availability

The Galaxy A55 is anticipated to be available for purchase for €449 (approximately $470). Although official pricing in the United States has not yet been disclosed, it is anticipated that the Galaxy A55 will be priced similarly to its antecedent, which debuted at $449.

In light of the recent trend of price increases in Europe and the United Kingdom, prices in the United States may experience a modest increase. However, the base variant is expected to be available for less than $500, rendering it a compelling choice for users on a budget.

About accessibility, the source indicates a potential German release in mid-March 2024, possibly in conjunction with the Galaxy A35, its more cost-effective sibling. Furthermore, both smartphones may be available in the United States as early as March. Reported color options include purple, navy, ice blue, and white. Samsung is likely to issue an official statement regarding the launch event shortly.

Release Date

Mid-March 2024 is the most probable release date for the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G, according to the most recent release schedule for the series. Typically, the handset is released near the Samsung Galaxy S flagship's early-year debut.

However, this has yet to be the case consistently. The A50 was introduced in February 2019, whereas the Galaxy A51 5G debuted in April 2020. The series has become an increasingly vital component of Samsung's release schedule, and the company has become considerably more consistent in recent years; therefore, it is unlikely that the less predictable launch windows will return. The Galaxy A55 5G is anticipated to debut in early 2024.
