Sam Heughan fires up the “Outlander” fandom as he shares a sweet birthday message for his “screen wife” Caitriona Balfe. The actor’s social media page is also a rich source of behind-the-scenes updates as he posts photos of him and his co-stars having fun while filming “Outlander” season 5.

Sam Heughan sends Caitriona Balfe a sweet birthday greeting

Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser in the “Outlander” TV series, is never too busy to be the first one to greet Balfe on her 40th birthday on Friday. The actor shared a red carpet photo of them from 2018, and, as expected of the actor, his caption did not go by without cracking a joke. He suggested that the picture was the only one he could find that is appropriate to post online.

On a serious note, Heughan showered Balfe with many positive words to describe her. “Wishing this remarkable, generous, talented, gracious, elegant, big hearted, goof, the biggest birthday wishes,” Heughan wrote about his co-star who plays his “screen wife” Claire Fraser.

Before internet shippers get all excited, it should be noted that both actors have repeatedly dismissed all dating rumors that emerged over the years. Heughan and Balfe’s great TV chemistry has led to numerous speculations that they might have dated in real life.

It should also be noted that Balfe reportedly got married to her long-time boyfriend, Tony McGill. Balfe has yet to confirm the reports, but several reliable publications ran the story in August, claiming they tied the knot in a church ceremony at the St. Mary’s Church in Bruton, Somerset, in England. Heughan has not said a word about the wedding reports, too, but many fans believe that he attended Balfe’s wedding.

Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are still filming for ‘Outlander’ season 5

Starz and the cast of “Outlander” season 5 have confirmed that it will premiere on Feb. 16, 2020. While fans wait for the premiere, they might want to ease the “droughtlander” by looking through the behind-the-scenes photos Heughan has been sharing on his Instagram page.

Less than 24 hours before he posted his greeting for Balfe, the actor shared an adorable photo that also features Sophie Skelton. The three TV stars appear to be hugging each other to deal with the freezing temperature while they are filming on-location for “Outlander” season 5.
