The advent of media streaming platforms allows new fans to catch up on TV shows that have been on the air for several years like “Outlander.” New followers of the series may have also just joined the bandwagon of fans hoping that Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan’s on-screen chemistry extends to a real-life romance.
The truth about Catriona Balfe and Sam Heughan dating rumors
Early seasons of “Outlander” are filled with steamy sex scenes between Balfe and Heughan’s characters named Claire and Jamie. The actors have performed their jobs very well that there have been fans who passionately hoped that they end up becoming real-life couples.
Balfe and Heughan were aware of that but did not sound so happy that some fans were disappointed when the dating rumors have been dismissed. Shortly after “Outlander” season 2 premiere in 2016, the actors told E! News that they are not a couple and they have told fans from the beginning that they are just “great friends.”
The model turned actress recognized that many fans wanted for the dating rumors to be true, possibly because they see it as a way to make the Claire and Jamie love story be true. Heughan admitted he found it “strange” that some fans act like they were deceived after beautifully portraying Claire and Jamie’s romance on TV and then shutting down dating rumors in real life.
Just a few months after the interview above, Balfe reiterated to Entertainment Weekly that she is not dating Heughan. “Honestly I’m tired of that conversation,” the actress said before adding that “Outlander” is a fantasy drama and what was happening in their private lives was different.
Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe return as Jamie and Claire next year
“Outlander” TV fans, old and new, are best advised to accept that Balfe and Heughan were never an item. Additionally, the actress reportedly got married in August while Heughan’s Instagram post suggests he could have been one of the guests in the yet-to-be-confirmed wedding ceremony.
