South Korea's SK Chemicals Co. is teaming up with Estée Lauder to bring circular recycling into the cosmetic giant's packaging, marking a significant step towards sustainability in the industry.
SK Chemicals' Circular Recycling Solutions for Estée Lauder
As part of the agreement, SK Chemicals will provide Estée Lauder with its eco-centric materials, ECOTRIA CR, SKYPET CR, and ECOZEN CLARO, reports KED Global. This unique recycling solution will be applied to The Estée Lauder Companies and its portfolio of brands.
Estée Lauder, known for its luxury cosmetic and skincare products, alongside its renowned subsidiary brands such as Bobbi Brown and Clinique, aims to increase the recycled content in its product packaging, supporting the global push towards sustainability.
Circular recycling involves the conversion of waste plastic back into its basic constituent units. This process stands at the forefront of tackling the global plastic waste dilemma. By gradually increasing the recycled material content in their products and using recyclable materials to replace other plastic materials like ABS, SAN, and glass, SK Chemicals and Estée Lauder contribute to reducing the carbon footprint, notes a press release by PR Newswire.
SK Chemicals' Commitment to Recycled Materials
SK Chemicals has been consistently supplying recycled materials to the cosmetics container market. Earlier this year, the company collaborated with industry players, including Yonwoo and Cosmax Inc., to develop and market recyclable cosmetic containers.
In a strategic move, SK Chemicals established a subsidiary, SK Shantou, and acquired assets related to circular recycling raw materials and circular recycling PET business from Shuye, a Chinese green material specialist company, further expanding their global foundation for the recycled plastic business.
Accelerating the Low-Carbon Movement
With the agreement between SK Chemicals and Estée Lauder, Estée Lauder and several subsidiary brands are anticipated to adopt SK Chemicals' recycling solution. This commitment accelerates the low-carbon movement in the global cosmetics container market. Both companies actively contribute to a more sustainable future by integrating circular recycling solutions.
Ahn Jae-hyun, the CEO of SK chemicals, said, "Through this agreement, we believe positive synergies can be created in both business and environmental aspects as SK chemicals, leading the circular recycling plastic technology, partners with The Estée Lauder Companies, leading the global cosmetics market." He added, "We will continue to work harder to create a sustainable cosmetics container ecosystem."
