South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has fined a retailer of popular Japanese fashion brand Uniqlo 153 million won over misleading advertisements.
FRL Korea Co., which sells Uniqlo products, exaggerated the features of its underwear products, named AIRism and DRY-EX, claiming through ads from 2018 to 2020 that they have antibacterial and deodorization features.
The FTC said FRL Korea handed in the antibacterial performance test results of its fabrics regarding Staphylococcus aureus, but it can not recognize its direct relation to the descriptions from the ads of the finished products.
The watchdog noted that the said products must pass examinations to have their antibacterial features accredited, which FRL Korea never proved.
Seoul-based Lotte Shopping Co. holds a 49 percent stake in FRL Korea Co.
