‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Cast, Updates: Alan Tudyk Reveals More Details on New Droid K-2SO; Possible Upcoming Standalone Films Focus on Kylo Ren, Leia?

Alan Tudyk plays droid K-2SO in 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ actor Alan Tudyk revealed more details on his new character, a droid called K-2SO. Meanwhile, it was speculated that upcoming standalone films in the ‘Star Wars’ anthology may include stories focused on Kylo Ren, Leia, and Yoda.

According to Dork Side of the Force, Tudyk revealed more details on his new role in the upcoming standalone film set in the ‘Star Wars’ universe. He is set to play a droid director Gareth Edwards described as the “antithesis” of C-3PO, a humanoid robot programmed primarily for etiquette and protocol featured in the original trilogy in the franchise.

Edwards said, “Kaytoo is a little bit like Chewbacca’s personality in a droid’s body. He doesn’t give a sh*t about what you think. He doesn’t fully check himself before he says things and does things. He just speaks the truth.”

Tudyk said during an interview with FlickDirect, “I play a droid in Rogue One called K-2SO. He is an Imperial droid who was reprogrammed by the Diego Luna’s character Cassian and he’s now on the side of the rebels and the alliance. And he… he’s sort of his right hand man.”

He added, “He’s, I dunno, he’s great. I think you’re gonna like him. I don’t know how much I can say about him. He’s kind of… he’s a little off. His memory wiped. They turned him from the Empire over to the alliance. It kinda left a couple of circuits unconnected so there are moments when he’s just… he’s just a bit off. He’s not like other droids.”

Edwards’ upcoming installment is set to introduce brand new characters into the franchise. Joining Tudyk are Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Ben Mendelsohn as Director Orson Krennic, Riz Ahmed as Bodhi Rook, Mads Mikkelsen as Galen Erso, and Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera. It is intended as the first film in standalone ‘Star Wars’ anthology and will follow a group of rebel spies attempting to steal plans for the Empire’s newest weapon, the Death Star.

An article on The Week suggested that although the new film is scheduled to bow on December, fans are already anticipating a host of possible standalone films including those that center on iconic characters such as Kylo Ren, Leia, and Yoda.

J.J. Abrams, director of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’, teased that a Knights of Ren film is a possibility. This may explore the villain’s origins as well as his group of accomplices and subordinates. A film focusing on a young Leia Organa is also speculated.

A standalone film starring Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo is set to premiere on May 25, 2018 and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ is an action-adventure and fantasy film directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz. It is produced under Lucasfilm and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures in the United States. It is scheduled to premiere on December 16, 2016.
