As theories are being developed for Season 2 of The CW’s highly addictive teen drama, “Riverdale,” a cast member is hinting that the show will explore another case, and more, in the second installment.
Marisol Nichols, who plays Veronica Lodge’s mother, Hermione, in the series, promised in an interview that Season 2 will definitely explore more storylines, including another case mystery. When asked about the show’s direction for Season 2, she said, "Oh, don't you worry. (Laughs.) There will be another case and more mysteries to solve. It's “Riverdale”, there's never not going to be a massive mystery to be solved. So you're going to see that. It'll be set up for sure by the end of the season, next episode. It's not over yet."
The first season explored the mystery surrounding the death of Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines), a popular jock and an heir to a massive maple business. Ahead of the season finale, it was revealed that Jason was killed by his very own father, Clifford Blossom, after Archie (KJ Apa), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) discovered a USB from Jason’s jacket which contained damning evidence confirming Clifford’s guilt. However, Clifford was found dead with a noose around his neck in the Blossoms’ barn full of barrels of drugs.
Showrunner Robert Aguirre-Sacasa said the season finale will explain why Clifford has murdered his own son. However, he also teased that there is more to Clifford’s death, which could mean that it will be the show’s next case in Season 2.
“Episode [12] is the who-dunnit, and episode [13] is the "Why did he do it?" A lot more mysteries start rolling out from there. I would say two things: stay tuned for the finale and remember, we didn’t see Clifford hang himself. We just saw Clifford hanging there,” he explained.
