‘Reign’ Season 4, Episode 8 Spoilers: “Unchartered Waters” Features More Trouble for Mary’s Imminent Wedding with Lord Darnley

Adelaide Kane plays Mary on The CW's 'Reign'

‘Reign’ season 4’s episode 8, titled “Unchartered Waters,” is set to feature more trouble for Mary’s imminent wedding with Lord Darnley.

The synopsis for episode 8 posted on TV Guide reads, “A tragedy occurs, pushing Mary (Adelaide Kane) and Darnley (Will Kemp) apart as their wedding looms. Meanwhile, Mary is forced to enlist help from Catherine (Megan Follows); and a traitor to Spain petitions Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) to support an expedition to the New World.”

The upcoming episode will follow Mary as she struggles through a recent tragedy that pushes her further from Lord Darnley. This threatens their impending union as man and wife.

In the previous episode, titled “Hanging Swords,” Mary learned from the “Loyal Watchman” that Lord Darnley has resumed his affair with his former love, Keira (Sara Garcia). Keira and Darnley initially intended to wed but Keira was promised to Lord White. She eventually traveled to Scotland with hopes of reuniting with Darnley.

Mary confronted Darnley about his affair and vowed that their marriage will only be for politics sake and nothing more. The Queen of Scots then met Lord Bothwell (Adam Croasdell) and the two engaged in a battle of wits. Bothwell owns noble lands that Mary intends to buy for James.

According to Christian Post, the tragedy mentioned in the synopsis may be connected to Keira, who remains in town even after James (Dan Jeannotte) caught her and Darnley sleeping together the other night.

Mary will be forced to turn to Catherine for help. Meanwhile, the promo hints that a heartbroken Mary may also betray Darnley by sleeping with Bothwell after she pays him a visit. By the end of the promo, Bothwell tells the queen, “Might I say, we make good partners.”

‘Reign’ season 4’s episode 8, titled “Unchartered Waters,” is scheduled to air on The CW on April 7, 2017. It was directed by Fred Gerber and written by Ben Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt. It will be followed by episode 9, titled "Pulling Strings," scheduled to be released on April 14 and directed by Andy Mikita.
