The new trailer for the “Red Dead Redemption 2” has further solidified how well this new installment has been made. While Rockstar Games does have a reputation for putting out RPGs that are polished and riveting, it seems that the developers outdid themselves on this one.
Not only is the game picturesque, everything about it screams high quality. From the combat system, missions, gameplay, tasks, and everything else in between, “Red Dead Redemption 2” is looking to snatch the title of Game of the Year. Of course, there are still a lot of games that are heavy contenders for this award, including the recent hit “God of War.”
But as true gamers would know, role-playing games are not about titles and awards but immersion and riveting storyline. And “Red Dead Redemption 2” seems to have been made with this in mind. Indeed, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously said that they aren’t focusing their attention on making a profit but have their attention locked on how they’re going to make the game as riveting as possible.
And if the trailers of “Red Dead Redemption 2” are anything to go by, the developers nailed this one on the head. One of the key things to take away from the recent gameplay footage is how the missions and tasks have been inserted into the installment. Even quotidian details were added like eating, participating in mundane games, and keeping the characters' hygiene in check.
Players can also go on petty robberies and huge heists as they go around increasing the influence of Arthur Morgan and his gang. Of course, one's reputation as a criminal has repercussions and “Red Dead Redemption 2” isn’t an exemption. If players manage to get their notoriety high enough, bounty hunters will start hunting them down.
However, for hardcore players who are always up for a skirmish, this is a welcome challenge. But for casual gamers who just want to enjoy the world and go on completing missions in “Red Dead Redemption 2,” they’ll have to be wary lest they attract these bounty hunters during their journey.
Whatever the case, players are free to do what they choose as “Red Dead Redemption 2” has a massive map and full of surprises at every turn. It’s not just guns and outlaws that are set to take gamers’ breath away as the landscape itself is simply gorgeous to look at.
Meanwhile, combat has been drastically improved, with the Dead Eye system the most anticipated inclusion yet as it allows players to shoot firearms through a slow-motion sequence. As the character progresses, this system will become even more powerful, providing more options to players in executing several enemies in quick succession. Hand-to-hand combat will also provide players the option to dispose of an enemy with options like strangling, beating, or dismissing an NPC.
All of these and more in a single RPG game. It goes without saying that “Red Dead Redemption 2” is going to make a lot of money for the studio after it is finally released on Oct. 26.
