The Razer Phone was released last year to rave reviews for delivering on many of the expected features that gamers wanted on their mobile device. During this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, Razer is trying to up the ante by unveiling a laptop platform that’s meant to house the phone. This would essentially turn the Razer Phone into a laptop.
Called Project Linda, the laptop is basically just a housing for the Razer Phone, which means that there’s really not much going on under the hood without the mobile device. Customers can look at it like a dock similar to the Microsoft Surface 2-in-1 laptop. While it is just a prototype, it has the potential to actually reach the market, PC World reports.
In terms of its appearance, Project Linda seems to take cues from the Razer Blade Stealth. Sporting a 13.3-inch screen and the Razer Chroma keyboard, it can almost be mistaken for a full-fledged gaming laptop. Looking past its lack of muscle, however, the laptop dock still has quite a bit going for it including a 120Hz, 16x9 display.
As for how it would be used, the Razer Phone will be placed on the socket where the trackpad would usually be, with the touchscreen facing up. Once the device is in place, users would push the docking button located on the top right corner of the keyboard, which would deploy the USB-C port that will connect to the phone.
As CNET notes, Project Linda is currently designed only for the Razer Phone, but the company is open to other smartphone makers being added to its ecosystem. There would need to be design compromises, of course, as the Razer Phone fits quite snugly into the dock that perfectly mimics its shape. On the other hand, there’s no confirmation as to whether or not the product would even make it to the market.
