The fight between Apple and Qualcomm has been going on since last year when the iPhone maker filed a lawsuit against the processor chip vendor for alleged extortion activities. Qualcomm recently filed its own countersuit accusing Apple of intentionally making its chips look underpowered compared to what Intel is offering, among other things.
In the 139-page counterclaim that Qualcomm released, the company has five key points that it is trying to push in its own lawsuit against Apple. According to the chip maker, one of the biggest is the matter of underutilizing the processor chip in its smartphones, which the company is arguing was meant to make Intel’s own products look better.
In the iPhone 7, in particular, Qualcomm is accusing Apple of not using the high-performance features of the chips, which supposedly prevented users from enjoying the full potential of the processors. In addition, during comparisons where iPhones that are equipped with Qualcomm’s chips performed better than that of Intel’s, the lawsuit states that Apple misrepresented the actual data by saying that there was no difference in performance.
When the company tried to go public with the actual data, Apple supposedly threatened Qualcomm in order to keep them quiet, The Verge reports. Aside from that, the chip maker is also accusing Apple of inciting the market to go against Qualcomm by supposedly spreading misinformation and false statements.
As for the claims by Apple, Qualcomm outright denies all of them, MacRumors reports. The chip maker even fights back by saying that Apple was first to break faith when it failed to live up to its end of the bargain with regards to their arrangements involving 3G and 4G technology. This is part of the reason for the countersuit, which aims to collect damages from Apple for breaking its promises and backing out of the deal they made.
