Prince Harry 'Deeply Regrets' Abandoning UK, Realizes the 'Value' of Royal Family: Royal Experts

Prince Harry will reportedly look back on his choice to resign as a senior royal with "deep regret" because it means he will be unable to publicly honor the country's war dead at the Cenotaph's Remembrance Sunday service.

Prince Harry Will Reportedly Deeply Regret Leaving Royal Family

Due to his personal military connections, the Duke of Sussex, according to long-serving royal analyst Richard Fitzwilliams, would have found the service difficult to observe. "The military will always be an important part of Prince Harry’s life and, however, he may pretend to the contrary, he must be deeply conflicted,” he told Express UK.

Prince Harry served in the Army for ten years, including two tours in Afghanistan, but when he resigned as a senior royal, he lost his military titles and patronages. This means he can't wear a military uniform to royal functions like the late Queen Elizabeth's burial in September.

"He saw 10 years service in the army including two tours of duty in Afghanistan, where he acquitted himself extremely well. He founded the Invictus Games in 2014, which was universally acclaimed as a brilliant idea, to help wounded, injured or sick serving men and women and veterans,” Richard stated, adding this would have been a kick in Prince Harry’s teeth.

"So when, at the Queen’s Funeral, he could not salute as he was not in uniform as he was no longer a working royal, it must have rankled, but it was his choice. He also lost his military patronages which he valued so much,” the royal commentator went on.

Despite his 22 years in the Royal Navy, Prince Harry's uncle, Prince Andrew, was similarly unable to wear a military uniform because he was no longer a working member of the Firm. He was also conspicuously absent from today's Remembrance Sunday ceremony.

"There is irony in the fact that both Prince Harry’s and Prince Andrew served in combat, but are unable to wear uniform as they are not active royals. However, given their behavior, there are unfortunately good reasons for this. Harry should also not have revealed the number of Taliban he personally killed during his second tour of duty in Afghanistan in his memoir, Spare,” Richard shared.

The royal commentator anticipates that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will observe Remembrance Sunday in their own unique way, as they have done since relocating to the United States. The Duke of Sussex visited Pearl Harbor in Hawaii last year, an Air Force Base in New Jersey in 2021, and a military cremation in Los Angeles in 2020.

"Harry and Meghan have, in recent years, commemorated this special weekend in their own way, with activities linked to the military. Yet given Harry’s upbringing and the importance which he attaches to the code that those who have served are always part of the military family, he cannot but view what has happened with very deep regret, especially today, when he was absent at the Cenotaph once again,” Richard Fitzwilliams shared.

Prince Harry Starts to Grasp the ‘Value’ of Being a Royal

Meanwhile, Tom Quinn, author of “Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family,” recently shared the private conversations he has had with Palace insiders. One takeaway from his behind-closed-doors conversations is that Prince Harry's "complaining" has placed doubt on his future status inside the Firm.

The grim prognosis comes exactly 10 months after Prince Harry wrote his autobiography, “Spare.” Many saw the book as the climax of his efforts to expose royal life for what it is. It was also the strongest show of his dissatisfaction with being the royal "spare" in his family.

However, by putting all of his faith in grievance-pedalling, Harry may be setting himself up for a tumble, according to sources. "Someone who worked for Harry when they were at Frogmore in Windsor said to me: 'What are they going to do when people lose interest in all the complaining? What happens when the complaining has to stop? What positive role can he have as a royal?'" Tom explained to Daily Express US.

According to the royal source, the warning comes at a vital time for Prince Harry. "Harry's made it very clear he feels horribly, badly treated. And I think he's already beginning to regret it because he understands the value of being a member of the Royal Family,” he stated.

Tom believes Harry's position in the line of succession is at the root of his frustrations. The Duke of Sussex has always taken a back seat to his older brother, Prince William, who is first in line to the throne. With the birth of each of his older brother's kids, he has gradually moved down the line of succession. Prince Harry is fifth in line to the throne as of 2023.

"All Harry's complaining is really about the fact that he's not number one, he doesn't have a bigger role...I think that's why he clicked with Meghan because she comes from a society where if you work hard and you're talented, you can get to the top,” the royal expert stated. With Meghan by his side, Prince Harry, according to Tom Quinn, could escape the tight hierarchy he was born into and reshape his destiny in America.
