Meghan Markle. Prince Harry Can Make King Charles' 75th Birthday Feel Like a Funeral: Royal Commentator

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly had not received an invitation to King Charles' birthday.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s absence from King Charles's 75th birthday is not surprising because “their presence at any family gathering now would make it feel more like a funeral than a celebration,” a royal commentator claimed.

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Unlikely to Attend King Charles’ Birthday

A representative for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry said this week that they had not received any letter from Buckingham Palace regarding an invitation to King Charles' birthday next week. Despite suggestions that Prince Harry and Meghan had skipped the event, Charles is expected to turn 75 on November 14.

Daily Mail Diary Editor Richard Eden noted in his Palace Confidential email how different things were at the King's 70th birthday five years ago. Just weeks after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding, then-Prince Charles hosted a garden party at the Palace, which they postponed their honeymoon to attend, per Daily Mail.

"Their delay was seen as a gesture of thanks by Meghan to her new father-in-law, who walked her up the aisle at St George’s Chapel, in the absence of her own father, Thomas Markle. When King Charles turns 75 next Tuesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will, however, be 5,000 miles away in California, and his milestone birthday has already been the subject of a public row,” Richard stated.

King Charles is said to want his birthday to be a quiet affair, with a close family gathering in the evening following a day spent promoting the monarch’s food waste prevention plan.

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry ‘Mistreated’ During Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral?

Meanwhile, during the late Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral last year, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly felt "mistreated" by the Royal Family. When word of the late Queen's death broke, Harry and Meghan were already in the U.K. for work.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry then appeared in public with members of the Royal Family on multiple occasions, including a walkabout in Windsor with the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince William and Princess Kate, respectively. According to columnist Richard Johnson, the charges made against Harry and Meghan came from some of their London pals.

"Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s friends in London are whispering that the former royals have been complaining they were snubbed and mistreated at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. They both whined that the family wasn’t as welcoming as they should have been,” Richard wrote in New York Daily News.

He also claimed that, in the week following the funeral, Prince Harry was reworking his book, which was released in January, to incorporate "the palace intrigue surrounding their trip to England for his grandmother's funeral." "Insiders say that Penguin Random House paid more than $ 15 million for his story and they want it to contain scandalous, headline-grabbing news,” Richard penned.

"Members of the Royal Family hope that Harry will not attack his family as insensitive racists the way Meghan did during the Oprah interview. Insiders fear the book could bury any reconciliation between Harry and Meghan, and the Royal Family,” he furthered.

To recall, Prince Harry's highly awaited book, which was supposed to be released in 2022, was instead released on January 10, 2023. The columnist suggested that the publishing date had been pushed back to allow Harry to make extra adjustments, as well as add the new chapter.
