After “Power” ended in February, fans were asking Starz not to end drama yet, however, the network could not extend the series since its producers revealed that they have already reached the end of James “Ghost” St. Patrick’s story. However, the show’s executive producer 50 Cent admitted that it is such a waste for this fantastic drama to conclude and revealed that to compensate, they are planning a spin-off instead.
Reveal of the titles for the four spin-offs
Since they can’t expand the story anymore, they have come up with a series of spin-offs that will begin with “Power Book II: Ghost.” This will be followed by three more stories that were previously revealed, and they are “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” “Power Book IV: Influence,” and “Power Book V: Force.”
"In television history, only a select few shows have inspired four consecutive series extensions, launched into active production and development at the same time," The Hollywood Reporter quoted Jeffrey Hirsch, Starz's CEO, as saying in a statement. "These new and exciting chapters will continue the journey of some of Power's most controversial characters while featuring a growing ensemble of complex, distinct characters along with the high-octane drama that set Power in a class of its own."
Each of the spin-off stories will feature one or two of the most memorable characters in the original “Power” drama series. In “Power Book II: Ghost,” which will be the first to be released, it was said that Tariq and his mother Tasya will be featured alongside new powerful characters such as Monet, who will be played by Mary J. Blige. Based on the showrunner Courtney Kemp’s descriptions, Monet is a smart, savvy, and strategic individual who picked up her know-hows in doing business in the streets.
Plot summary of Book II
“Power Book II: Ghost” will pick up 48 hours after Ghost died. 50 Cent stated that there will be characters who still can’t process his death, but definitely, that is not Tariq who was already confirmed as his own father’s shooter.
Finally, Kemp further revealed that they chose a basketball player to be the main character in “Power Book II: Ghost.” In fact, she said that they will be filming basketball game scenes in a college arena once the lockdown ends and they are allowed to go back to filming.
