‘Poldark’ season 3 is currently in production. Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson were recently spotted filming in a coastal Welsh village and not in Cornwall. Meanwhile, it was speculated that season 3 will feature more trouble ahead for Ross and Demelza’s marriage following the intense events from the previous season.
According to Cornwall Live, cast and crew have moved production for season 3 of the popular British-American period drama starring Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson in the lead roles to a coastal Welsh village instead of the usual Cornwall locations.
Cast and crew were spotted filming in the village of Southerndown on the South West coast of Wales last January 26. Turner was photographed in a modern camouflaged coat to combat chilly conditions but it looked like he was in full Ross Poldark costume underneath.
Co-star Tomlinson was also spotted in a large coat in-between takes. In addition to Turner and Tomlinson returning to play lead protagonists Ross and Demelza, respectively, new characters are also expected to be introduced in season 3.
Harry Richardson of ‘Doctor Who’, Tom York of ‘Olympus,’ and Ellise Chappell of ‘New Blood’ will be joining the new cast. Richardson and York will play Demelza’s brothers Drake and Sam while Chappell will play Elizabeth’s (Heida Reed) cousin Morwenna.
It was reported that production for season 3 began even before season 2 aired on the small screen. The upcoming season is expected to return on BBC One sometime in 2017 since the official air date is yet to be announced.
Season 2 followed Ross and Demelza navigate through the challenges of their marriage especially after Ross cheated on his wife with ex-lover Elizabeth when he found out that she was engaged to be wed with his arch nemesis George Warleggan (Jack Farthing). Elizabeth eventually married George anyway.
Ross attempted to heal his troubled marriage following the bitterness that ensued between him and Demelza. He even promised that Elizabeth will never tear them apart ever again. However, complications arose when Elizabeth was revealed as pregnant but didn’t know who her unborn child’s father was.
According to The Week, Aunt Agatha expressed her strong suspicions that Ross was indeed the child’s father. It would be interesting to see how this revelation would affect Ross and Demelza’s already strained marriage as well as George’s relationship with his new wife.
Meanwhile, writer Debbie Horsfield previously hinted at more drama for season 3. According to Pirate FM, Horsfield said, "We're thrilled to be kicking off Series 3 with a fantastic array of new characters and a story which scales new heights of conflict, feuding, passion and drama.”
She continued, "Ross is older but not necessarily wiser, and his recklessness sometimes costs him, and his loved ones, dear. We're in for a rollercoaster ride where the stakes have never been higher".
‘Poldark’ season 3 is expected to return to BBC One sometime in 2017.
