Pocophone F2 has been on many lists of anticipated smartphones to be announced in 2019, and it is mostly because of the success of its predecessor in 2018. Xiaomi remains mum on its plans for the Poco brand, but information and image leaks have been popping up over the previous months.
Some of the most interesting rumors about Pocophone F2 suggest that Xiaomi will apply significant changes to its design. There has also been a report that Pocophone F2 would be launched as a series having two smartphone models.
Pocophone F2 design, specs: What to expect
A reported Xiaomi patent filing in August sparked rumors that the Pocophone F2 could sport a major design upgrade, especially with the placement of its front-facing camera. The document contains a series of illustrations of an unnamed device with punch-hole cameras located in the upper right, center, and upper left corners of the display.
Some argued that other aspects of the design looked similar to Pocophone F1, which led to the speculation that the patent filing could be part of Xiaomi’s development of the unannounced device. Patent documents are usually good sources of tech rumors, but not all patented designs and tech make it into the market. It is then best to speculation on the supposed Pocophone F2 design with a grain of salt.
Last month, another Pocophone F2 was spotted when phone case maker Spigen reportedly listed products for Pocophone F2 and an F2 Pro variant. The said product page is no longer present on Spigen’s website, but reports were able to take screenshots. The now-deleted product listing included preview images of the alleged Pocophone F2 design that looked almost the same as the patent filing. But instead of a punch-hole camera, it was showing a motorized pop-up camera design.
If there is one thing that Poco fans can count on is that the likelihood of having Snapdragon 855+ on Pocophone F2. It can be recalled that Pocophone F1’s success was mainly because of its premium specs and budget-friendly price tag. If Xiaomi wants Pocophone F2 to have the same appeal, Snapdragon 855+ be included in the device’s technical specs.
Pocophone F2 release date: Device delayed to 2020?
Pocophone F2’s predecessor was launched in 2018. Since it was a hit in several regions, many tech fans assumed that the band would join Xiaomi’s annual cycle of new smartphone releases. That would mean an official announcement this year, but with only a few weeks left in 2019, it now appears that the wait could be extended to 2020.
