When it was announced that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was coming to the Xbox One, a lot of gamers were ecstatic. At the same time, fans of the online, multiplayer shooting title also expected the console version to be janky, at the very least. Now that the game is out, it’s every bit as messy as everyone thought, but people still love it.
As The Verge notes, PUBG is without a doubt THE sleeper hit of 2017. Selling over 25 million copies despite the fact that it’s still in Early Access and absolutely shattering previous concurrent player numbers on Steam held by Dota 2, Brendan Greene’s creation is absolutely monstrous.
With the release of the game on Microsoft’s console, those sales numbers are only expected to go up. This is despite the fact that the game is inferior compared to its PC cousin in practically every way. This is because, for all its flaws, PUBG on Xbox One reportedly retains what makes it such an addictive game.
To be more specific, the console version still has that intensity to it that 100 players in close proximity can bring. While the graphics have been downgraded and the controls appear to be less than ideal, the critical elements of the game are still there.
PC players using the Xbox One controller to play the game might take a while to adjust, but in the case of Kotaku, getting used to it results in massive amounts of fun. It has been noted that the framerates do drop below 30 FPS from time to time, which can be a huge pain once the shooting starts. However, the PC version does this a lot too.
Of course, there are going to be gamers who won’t like what the Xbox One PUBG has to offer and that’s fine. For many reviewers who have tried it thus far, however, it’s still the good old flawed masterpiece that it is on PC.
