The competition in the gaming console world is beginning to heat up if reports with regards to upcoming announcements are anything to go by. Basically, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are expected to make some big reveals this year with regards to their respective upgraded game devices. The next iterations of the Xbox, PS5, and the Switch are all predicted to be announced in the coming months.
As The Verge reports, there have been a ton of rumors and predictions with regards to the PS5 and other gaming consoles of late. Among the most persistent details are the 2019 launch date and the addition of backward compatibility. Judging by the runaway success of the PS4, it’s a fair bet that Sony is currently enjoying the community’s favor. Microsoft is desperate to change that.
If the leaks and rumors flying around are to be believed, the maker of the Xbox is desperate to one-up its Japanese counterpart with the next generation of its game box. This is why it supposedly wants to release the product sooner than Sony and why it is integrating cloud technology into the experience. In contrast, the makers of the PS5 are being quite tight-lipped on the matter.
Even with the numerous reports and analysis on the PS5, Sony refuses to confirm anything other than the fact that it is coming. There have definitely been teasers here and there, but nothing concrete has been provided. This is starting to make fans antsy, especially when considering how the age of the PS4 is beginning to show.
By simply taking previous incarnations of the console into consideration, it makes sense for the PS5 to be announced this year and then released late next year. If this doesn’t happen, it would be the longest period between upgrades of the console ever. Should this be the case, Sony had better have a good reason for the delay or face backlash.
